Free care for people who need a place to turn.
OUR STORY
Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. That belief has guided Manos Juntas from the beginning.
The start of something lasting.
Dr. Boyd Shook and his daughter Kathy McCallie founded Manos Juntas in 1995 to improve the health of their Oklahoma community. Fundación Manos Juntas was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1997.
Today, we continue to join hands with volunteers, providers, and supporters to offer free medical care and health education to those in need.
Watch our story ↗When Dr. Boyd Shook passed away in December 2022, Manos Juntas lost a founder, physician, and mentor whose commitment had shaped nearly three decades of care. His death brought a difficult transition, and the clinic temporarily closed while its leaders worked to secure medical oversight and rebuild operations.
Board members, longtime volunteers, and former clinic leaders came together to assess the clinic’s needs and share responsibility for its future. With Jackson Higginbottom, MPH serving as Board President and Interim Director and Dr. Aneesh Pakala becoming Medical Director, the board moved to monthly meetings and established committees for volunteering, fundraising, and quality improvement. New appointments brought financial, clinical, and institutional experience to this collective effort. With support from volunteers, donors, and community partners, prescription refills resumed in January 2023, followed by provider visits in February.

Since then, the clinic has strengthened volunteer leadership, expanded specialty care, and introduced electronic medical records. This progress reflects a shared commitment to protecting the care our neighbors rely on and building an organization that can carry its mission beyond any one leader.
Dr. Shook’s belief that healthcare is a right, not a privilege continues to guide us. We honor his legacy through the care we provide today and the foundation we build for tomorrow.
Free care for people who need a place to turn.
Compassionate care that respects the person behind every visit.
A healthier, better-informed Oklahoma, built together.
There is more than one way to join hands with Manos Juntas.
